J.J. Hapgood is a historic general store with a contemporary focus on food and community gathering in the heart of Peru, Vermont. Their eatery offers an expansive dining menu, local and regional craft beer on tap, unique cocktails, and space to host special events. In addition to milk and eggs on the way home, shoppers can grab wood-fired pizzas, specialty baked goods, a fresh salad, and hand-crafted sandwiches for a quick meal on-the-go or browse our shelves stocked with pantry staples, fresh produce, and local meats. J.J. Hapgood hold special events throughout the year including special wine and beer dinners, theme nights, and live music from local and regional artists. Dinner is served at J.J. Hapgood's on Thursday through Sunday evenings. Diners experience modern American fare with a focus on local ingredients. Sample a Vermont Cheese & Charcuterie Board or Nitty Gritty Cornmeal Crusted Oysters as an appetizer and dine on Utley Brook Farm Beef Burger, Pan-Roasted Duck Breast topped with a pomegranate molasses, or Moroccan Spiced Lamb Shanks complimented by cauliflower cous cous, crispy chickpeas and roasted eggplant. Their intimate bar serves a curated list of local and regional draft beers that change with the season. Their menu also changes with the seasons, but always features contemporary comfort food with local products at the height of their freshness. In Vermont's warmer months their charming patio is open for an outside meal among the beauty of the Green Mountains.
