Dairy Fun Field Day at The Farm at Wheeler Mountain | Open Farm Week 2024

Visit the Lidback’s farm for the Dairy Fun Field Day during Vermont Open Farm Week on Sunday, August 4, noon-3pm. The farm is an excellent example of an Orleans County farm employing conservation practices. Come see these practices in action! Tour the farm, learn about the local fish population with the Conservation District's riparian lands program manager, and enjoy other family-friendly activities. Light refreshments will be served (Cabot cheese & fruit kabobs).

The Farm at Wheeler Mountain raises a mixed breed herd of 70 milking cows, crops about 200 acres of hay and no-till corn silage, and pastures 50 acres. Adam and Joanna Lidback have been working with the Orleans County Conservation District since 2017 to meet the Required Agricultural Practices on their farm and to enhance conservation best management practices. The Lidbacks have committed to employ various conservation practices including no-till and cover cropping of their corn fields, improved heifer manure storage, added livestock exclusion fencing, and the planting of riparian areas.
