Join us for an introduction to agroforestry to learn how these practices can diversify farms of all styles, shapes, and sizes. Mark Krawczyk and Ammy Martinez steward 52 acres of field and forest in at Valley Clayplain Farm where they cultivate log-grown shiitake mushrooms, nutrient-dense berries and other fruits, and maintain a uniquely diverse set of agroforestry installations that support wildlife, build soil, slow and infiltrate runoff, and much more. Following an overview of the fundamentals of agroforestry, we’ll examine a number of the promising species for growers in Vermont and explore how these practices can support a whole-systems approach to farm and land management. This workshop will be outdoors and field-based with a mini-lecture for the first 30-40 minutes, followed by a walk-and-talk tour.
