Vermont’s first Hot Chocolate Week is February 1st - 7th, 2021! 

Check out the list below for some fun ways to enjoy Vermont hot chocolate this winter! Whip up a mug at home using a new recipe featured here or go on an outing to discover unique flavors at participating businesses. Meet the cows at the featured dairy farms, enjoy a boozy hot chocolate using local spirits, sweeten your mug with Vermont maple, add a scoop of your favorite ice cream, enjoy a mug after a snowy adventure, and more!

Hot chocolate spoons are a great way to get creative in the kitchen and make something you can warm up with after playing in the snow. There’s something magical about watching hot milk turn into hot cocoa as you stir—make sure you use local milk for an extra-special treat! This is a great activity to do with kids, and easily customizable. Try with white, milk, and dark chocolates, experiment with stirring in some peanut butter powder for PB hot cocoa, or add a little cinnamon and cayenne for a spicy kick. Frog Hollow Farm is celebrating Hot Chocolate Week in three different ways!

  • Try their featured dessert: Hot Chocolate Milk Cake with Marshmallow Ganache featuring Vermont dairy, available in their farmstand and at the farmers markets during the week (Rutland's online and indoor markets).
  • Purchase their Hot Chocolate Bar in a Box: featuring in-house marshmallows, vanilla, maple, and a mini marshmallow mix of vanilla, chocolate, and peppermint. Plus, Fat Toad Farm Caramel, Laughing Moon Chocolates, and MOCO Hot Chocolate Mix. This box is available online, in their farmstand, and at the farmers markets.
  • Visit the farm and take a winter hike or snowshoe! The trail throughout their farm will be open Monday - Saturday, 1:00pm - 4:00pm. Hot chocolate and their mini marshmallows will be served in their farmstand. Saturday, the 6th, there will be a special bonfire (weather dependent) to warm up before or after trail use; hot chocolate and mini marshmallows will be served. Masks and social distancing are required; reservations preferred.

Garden Atrium Cafe at University Medical Center, Burlington*

University Medical Center staff can stop by the Garden Atrium cafe for various flavors of hot chocolate to celebrate Hot Chocolate Week. Choose between “kit kat” hot chocolate, peanut butter hot chocolate, or peppermint hot chocolate, each paired with a pastry, caramel hot chocolate paired with Red Kite caramel candy, or a hot chocolate float. *This is only for folks in the University Medical Center building.

Friday at Dan & Whit's: To celebrate Hot Chocolate Week, Norwich Farm Foundation and Norwich Farm Creamery will be hosting a Hot Chocolate station at Dan and Whit’s in Norwich, Friday Feb 5th from 12:00pm - 5:00pm. All proceeds benefit Norwich Farm Foundation in their efforts to save Norwich Farm.

Saturday & Sunday at the farm: The self-serve hot cocoa station is open weekends from 9:00am - 5:00pm at the Norwich farm store. Made from local milk from the Jerseys at Billings Farm, the hot chocolate is $3 a cup and $2 per refill, including marshmallows. The recipe includes non-GMO cocoa, organic sugar, and a little sea salt.

Robie Farm, Piermont, NH

Free cocoa at the farm store

Robie Farm is a 6th generation dairy farm on the banks of the Connecticut River in Piermont, NH. Their farm store is stocked with their bottled raw milk & cream, farmstead cheeses, meat, poultry, and other local products. Sip on some free delicious hot chocolate in their farm store this week! Open Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 7:00pm and Sunday afternoon, 12:00pm - 7:00pm. 

Sandiwood Farm, Wolcott

Visit for hot cocoa and winter fun

Sandiwood Farm will be open over the weekend, February 6th & 7th. Sip on some hot chocolate in their beautiful agritourism greenhouse! Visit their farm that weekend for a bonfire outside and trail use for skiing, snowshoeing, or fat biking around the farm and through their sugarbush. They have 80 acres and try to keep the trails tracked. No cost for cocoa and trail use. Reusable mugs are encouraged!

Shelburne Farms, Shelburne

Shelburne Farms is featuring two recipes: Maple Hot Chocolate and Maple Marshmallows. Did you know that you can make your own evaporated milk? “It’s essentially milk that is gently heated and reduced by half, creating a much creamier liquid,” explains Shelburne Farms Chef Veronica Bartolacci. The recipe, Salted Caramel & Brandy Hot Chocolate, uses their Dead Bird Brandy, sold online and picked up at the orchard. Plan ahead for two weekly curbside pick up times: Friday evenings 5:00pm - 5:30pm and Saturday mornings 10:00am - 10:30am.

Three Skinny Pancake locations are participating in Hot Chocolate Week with delicious specials! The Quechee restaurant is featuring cinnamon hot chocolate with whipped cream. Stop in downtown Stowe for peppermint hot cocoa with whipped cream. Visit the Burlington location for a selection of boozy hot chocolates, including a spicy one with jalapeño tequila, mole bitters, and their hot cocoa.  

Snow Farm Vineyards, South Hero

Snow Farm’s tasting room in South Hero is open on the weekends, Saturdays and Sundays 11:00am - 4:00pm. They recommend making their Red Wine Hot Chocolate, the ultimate cold weather drink - wine and hot chocolate together. Their Baco Noir wine hints of black cherry and blends so smoothly with the chocolate. Snow Farm Vineyard red wine hot chocolate goes nicely with apres ski snacks like Vermont maple cream dip and biscuits or VT cheese fondue. “This red wine hot chocolate is a must try!”

Like all their muffins, these are made in-house, and will include a gluten-free variety. They have hot milk ready to mix with individual packets of MOCO Hot Coco, which is organic and made in Vermont! Choose from Classic, Mexican, or Peppermint.
